Interest in CCFP amongst doctors

Do you think that our battle to keep CCFP going is doomed to failure, given the pace of life, the need to make a living, the apathy in the profession and the fact that only in countries where CME and accreditation linked to recertification was made mandatory that interest in being members of a College like ours is flourishing? like the AAFP for instance.
We speak of advocacy- but should one of our prime goals for the next three years not be to lobby to make CME and Recertification by accreditation for all doctors mandatory in our region?
And as a corollary, this would mean that we as a College must make sure that the tools are there for our members to access.
Can we do it? with the scarce resources at our disposal- most of all, the extremely small core of dedicated doctors with the time and expertise to do the work?

What do you all thinK?

CCFP- Should it disband?

I rceived a number of emails in reply to this comment
- notably from
CURACAO- Dr. Dorothy Janga
St. VINCENT- Dr. Miriam Sheridan
GRENADA- Dr. Jennifer Japal-Isaacs
TRINIDAD & TOBAGO- A number of doctors- old and young
BAHAMAS- Dr. Hanna-Mahase
All were unanimous , that CCFP is not irrelevant and that we must find a way to make it survive
There was no feedback from Jamaica- and that interests me.
Jamaica remains the strongest unit on paper, yet it does not seem to be growing- but perhaps this is a perception.

What is the feeling?

Certification and the CCFP

The CCFP was the first medical group in the Caribbean to establish formal guidelines for certification of general practitioners. In 1988, the College instituted the MCCFP for all those physicians who gave evidence of 150 hours of continuing medical education. It is now time to formalise this process by instituting a certifying examination for GPs who are not able to attend a formal general practice residency. GPs who already achieved the MCCFP will be "grandfathered" in with the new members. What are the issues that arise from this move?

Failure is an outcome after a

Failure is an outcome after a series of actions.  CCFP can only be doomed to failure if the actions of its principals are on a path of failure.  Therefore self examinationis the first step.. And for it to grow the appointed officials must go out to recruit members .   No longer can the executives stay inthe ivory towers of the bigger territories and expect to get support especially in the smaller islands where there is no university (campus) presence (or even in the remote districts of the larger territories).  It is time to build bvridges and alliances.  We are all struggling for survival. the strong must help the weak.. Bigger brother must reachout and help his  baby brother or sister.

There is still time to avoid failure.  SEIZE the opportunity
